If you are a nurse, doctor, paramedic, surgeon or any other medical emergency or healthcare provider who needs to either get certified or refresh their Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification, it’s easy to register at CPR Tampa’s Palm Harbor location. Simply follow the links above depending on if you need to renew or take the course for the first time.

The American Heart Association ACLS provider course can only be taught by AHA certified instructors. This course cannot be completed entirely online. If you are thinking about registering for an online ACLS course that doesn’t require you to at least complete an in-person skills check including the Megacode, then it is not AHA approved. Don’t waste your money. Hospitals and other medical employers require AHA certifications only. The only online option that is legitimate is through the AHA, but it still mandates that after part one is completed online that you come in to a certified training site to complete your skills testing. If you are interested in this option, CPR Tampa offers this as an online package deal. However, if this is your first time taking ACLS, we recommend the hands-on classroom approach for the whole course.

What is covered in an ACLS class? Here is an example of some of the topics that you will study and learn in this class. The course will include learning how to effectively manage airways. You will also learn and practice on specialized mannequins  how to intubate. Of course an integral portion of the course includes practicing for respiratory arrest, CPR, and AED use.

Another component of the course includes review of H’s and T’s.

The H’s include: Hypovolemia, Hypoxia, Hydrogen ions, Hyperkalemia or hypokalemia, and Hypothermia.

The T’s include: toxins, tamponade, Tension pneumothorax, Thrombosis, Thromboembolism, and Trauma.

Before coming to class you will also be required to be familiar with ECG strips such as ventricular fibrillation, pulseless ventricular tachycardia, bradycardia, PEA, and asystole. These electrocardiograms can be reviewed in manuals or their are several online courses that can also assist in learning these. Another very important course component is stroke assessment. For this the Cincinnati Stroke Scale is covered in detail.
